WiMAX Forum plans certification at 700Mhz

February 19, 2016

The WiMAX Forum is planning Mobile WiMAX certification in the 700 MHz frequency band, in response to demand from service providers who are increasingly selecting WiMAX for next generation mobile broadband technology.

Work on the 700 MHz frequency band certification is already underway, and will be in addition to the existing 2.3 GHz and 2.5 GHz frequency bands.

The published specifications will support both TDD and FDD certification profiles. The forum expects the 700 MHz spectrum to become a key spectrum band globally.

The forum is expanding its network of labs, which work on the specifications. It currently has facilities in China, Korea, Spain, the United States, and Taiwan. New labs are under construction in Brazil, Japan and India.

The WiMAX Forum is a not-for-profit organisation which certifies and promotes the compatibility and interoperability of broadband wireless products based upon the harmonized IEEE 802.16/ETSI HiperMAN standard.

The Forum is industry-led and has 522 members including communications operators, component manufacturers and equipment manufacturers.
